Do I Need To Book In Advance?
We strongly recommend that you book in advance as we get very busy, especially during peak periods such as weekend and school holidays. Monday to Friday we are open by appointment only, and usually only for groups of 8+.
Who can climb at Rocket Ropes?
Adults can participate, and children as young as 2 years providing they meet the course requirements. Depending on your fitness level, there is something for everyone, and furthermore, something to challenge everyone. Rocket Ropes encourages everyone to have a go, including groups with various learning difficulties and those with physical challenges.
Can my son/daughter go around the course alone?
All children on our Rocketeer toddler’s course must be supervised by and adult.
We do encourage adults to participate on the course with their children, but in some cases the adults can supervise from the ground. Some children are more competent and physically capable than others, and our staff will use their discretion to determine the appropriate course and number of participating adults to accompany various children and groups.
Children 15 years and younger must be actively supervised by an adult at all times.
Is it safe?
In a word – yes! We have introduced a brand new safety system called the Bornack SSB – German made. Learn more about it here. This means that you can NEVER be unattached. The system operates by only allowing one clip to open at one time, so you cannot become unattached. Rocket Ropes has a blemish free safety record. All you need to do is follow our simple training instructions and you’ll have a safe and fun time. Before you start, you’ll receive a full safety brief and then you are off! The course does however; consist of fun but challenging obstacles so there is a risk of minor injury.
Do I need to be fit?
You do need a degree of physical fitness but it’s probably easier than you might think. It might reassure you to know that it is very rare for a person to stop because they weren’t fit enough. If you aren’t sure then pay us a visit and have a look at what is required prior to taking part. The Rocket Course is definitely more challenging than the Croc course.
Are there any restrictions?
Yes there are age, height and weight restrictions. We also do not recommend for pregnant woman to participate on the courses. See the Ability section under each course page for more info.
What if I am afraid of heights?
The courses are designed to help you build your confidence as you go… Rocket Ropes has helped many people to conquer their fear of heights. Why not try it – you might surprise yourself.
What happens if it starts to rain when I am climbing and I don't want to continue, do I get my money back?
Our team will organise another day for you to come back to complete your adventure! This will be given in the form of a voucher.
What happens if I can't do it or I change my mind, do I get my money back?
If you attend the safety briefing and then choose not to attempt the course, at that stage a partial refund is given.
What happens in bad weather?
You can have just as much fun in the rain as you can in the sun! We assess the course first thing in the morning and will always put your safety first and will not operate in extreme weather conditions. We may need to close the course or parts of the course at short notice due to lightning or extremely high winds. Should this happen, we will contact you as soon as possible. Please note the Ripper Zipper is the first thing to close during bad weather. Our team will organise another day for you to come back to complete your adventure! (Conditions may apply). If in doubt – call ahead to check.
What should I wear?
Wear sensible outdoors shoes with suitable grip soles, e.g. trainers or ankle supporting boots – that means no high heels, no jandals or sandals…… For your enjoyment and safety, we recommend loose and comfortable clothing but skirts and dresses are not recommended – you are going to be high in the air in a harness after all. Check out the weather forecast for the day and dress accordingly.
What if I fall?
Slips are quite common but don’t worry, that’s half the fun! If you lose your footing, then your safety lines will prevent you from falling, allowing you to get back on and continue.
How long does it take to complete the activities?
This varies dramatically depending on the course or courses you have selected, your level of confidence, the progress of the people in front of you and the number of people on the course. As a general guide however, we recommend you allow up to 2 hours for the Croc Tower and Rocketeer Course participants can climb for up to an hour.
What If I cannot complete the whole course?
Instructors will always be on hand to help you if you have difficulty on any part of the course. Unfortunately after you have completed the safety briefing and enter the tower, no refunds are given if you fail to complete the course.
Where is Rocket Ropes and is there car parking?
We are next to Butterfly Creek in the same free car park – conveniently located 2 minutes from the Auckland airport and 30 minutes from Auckland City.
When should I arrive?
Set your alarm clock! It’s important to arrive at least 15 minutes before your allocated time slot as the course may be busy and we need to complete the safety briefing. If you are late, we will do all we can to get you into another slot but we can’t always promise this, especially on busy days, plus no refunds can be given. The best thing to do is leave in plenty of time.
Do you have a party package?
Yes! We offer packages for the Rocketeer and Croc courses! These include the climb per child and a meal with a juice box. For more information on these options please see our Groups drop down for Birthday Parties.
Can I bring in my own food and is there somewhere to eat it?
Yes we have a covered in seating area that you are welcome to use and bring your own food into. Please note the toilets and other amenities are next door at Butterfly Creek so this means you will need to bring your own utensils, plates etc.
Is there somewhere to grab a bite to eat or drink?
